RITQ congratulates Atty. Sonny Angara on his appointment as the new Secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd) and expresses optimism about his potential to positively impact the education sector.

RITQ Director Dr. Jennie Jocson said that with his extensive knowledge of government and finance, Secretary Angara brings a unique strength to the department, crucial for running effective education programs.

Dr Jocson further said:

“The work of a DepEd secretary is divided into two parts. First, he/she must know about education, the concerns of the sector, and the direction we need to take. But political will is also necessary. There are policies that need to be passed and implemented, requiring the help of various government agencies, not just within DepEd. There should be a balance between educational credentials and the capacity to understand and work on policy development within our bureaucracy. Based on his track record, Secretary Angara possesses the skills and experience to excel in his new role.”

Sec. Angara and Dr. Jocson

As the new school year begins, RITQ emphasizes the importance of focusing on teacher quality and professional development. Secretary Angara’s expertise is expected to enhance the continuity of valuable programs initiated by the previous administration, while also refining and improving them to meet the evolving needs of the education sector.

“DepEd secretaries come and go, and our issues and challenges in education keep evolving. But we have one anchor, one weapon that if we focus on it, we will never go wrong, and these are the teachers. Teacher quality is the most important aspect. We will achieve quality education from student outcomes if we have quality teachers. So I hope the new secretary can focus on the quality of our teachers from pre-service, review the pre-service curriculum, those who teach future teachers, and align our pre-service programs with the needs of the Department of Education,” Dr. Jocson said.

RITQ looks forward to collaborating with Secretary Angara in supporting teachers, advancing education policies, and ensuring that quality education remains a top priority.

Congratulations, and welcome to the education sector, Secretary Angara!
