RITQ Director Dr. Jennie Jocson participated in an online symposium on 5 June 2024 which explored ways to enhance the quality of pre-service education in the Philippines. The activity was organized by the Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM II) and the World Bank.

Dr. Jocson represented the EDCOM II Standing Committee for Higher Education, and Teacher Education and Development in the symposium. She joined other participants including EDCOM II Chairperson on the Sub-committee on Teacher Education Senator Koko Pimentel, Co-chairperson Congressman Roman Romulo, Jr., Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) President Dr. Aniceto Orbeta, EDCOM II Executive Director Karol Mark Yee, and committee member Dr. Carmelita Oracion.

The symposium’s resource persons included global experts from the World Bank Headquarters in Washington, D.C. including World Bank education specialists Karthika Radhakrishnan-Nair, Laura Gregory, Janssen Teixeira, Diego Luna-Bazaldua, and Anna Boni. Dr Jocson was joined by senior program managers Dr. Brando Palomar, Dr. Maria Theresa Manicio, and Dr. Ali Anudin.

The discussion focused on two areas: i) pre-service teacher training program curriculum and practical teaching; and ii) quality assurance of pre-service teacher training programs.
