RITQ and the Philippine Normal University (PNU) Faculty of General Education and Experiential Learning (FEEL) hosted the PNU Pre-Service Teacher Research Forum at the Geronima T. Pecson Main Auditorium, PNU Manila on 19 June 2024.

The forum gathered some 500 graduating students or pre-service teachers from various faculties within PNU, including the Faculty of Languages and Letters (FLL), Faculty of Science, Technology, and Mathematics (FSTeM), Faculty of Behavioral and Social Sciences (FBeSS), Institute of Creative Expression and Human Movement Education (ICHEM), and the Faculty of Education and Information Sciences (FEIS). The event aimed to enhance pre-service teachers’ understanding of the MATATAG Curriculum and provide insights into recent advancements in teacher education, and develop critical research skills while engaging with peers and experts.

RITQ senior program manager Dr. Brando Palomar provided an overview of the MATATAG curriculum, discussing its theoretical framework, design principles, and key components; while senior program manager Dr. Maria Teresa Manacio explored effective lesson design based on the science of learning within the MATATAG curriculum.

Pre-service teachers engaged with speakers in tackling RITQ outputs s such as Higher Order Thinking Skills – Professional Learning Packages (HOTS-PLPs), the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST), and COVID-Responsive Modules through interactive learning stations with QR codes for short quizzes.

Speaking at the forum were Dr. Darryl Roy Montebon, Associate Dean of FGEEL; Dr. Allan Reyes, RITQ Deputy Director; and Dr. Ali Anudin, RITQ senior program manager.

The forum emphasized collaboration between research institutes and academic institutions, aiming to enhance teacher education through research-based practices.

Participants shared selfie stories along with interesting captions through a virtual pinboard using the hashtags #RITQResearchForum and #IAmAPreServiceTeacher.
