In May 2024, the Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM II) partnered with RITQ to carry out a profiling study that will provide foundational understanding necessary for driving impactful changes in the quality of the country’s teacher educators.

The quality of pre-service teacher education, which is one of the key priority areas of the Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM 2), depends on the quality of teacher educators, defined as professionals involved in the training and development of pre-service and in-service teachers.

Teacher educators are responsible for delivering the teacher education curriculum at both undergraduate and graduate levels, ensuring it remains relevant to the changing needs of basic education.

“Given their critical role, teacher educators must continually connect theory with practice and create engaging learning experiences that exemplify best practices,” RITQ Director Dr. Jennie Jocson said. “With detailed and accurate data, we aim to suggest strategies to help teacher educators fulfill their role effectively, which is a necessity if we want to improve the education system in the Philippines.”

Dr. Karol Mark Yee, EDCOM 2 Executive Director, said the partnership “leverages RITQ’s expertise in conducting applied research to inform and shape policy development.” This collaboration, he said, is a great step in “resolving our learning crisis.”

RITQ is responsible for developing, distributing, and analyzing the data collected through this profiling study.

Heads of institutions offering teacher education programs are enjoined to participate in this significant national study. The profiling study encompasses the collection of data on demographics, institutional characteristics, perceptions of current teacher-educator practices, and the overall status of those practices within participating institutions.

TEIs can register their intention to participate through an online form.
