RCTQ issues statement on PISA 2022 results
Following the recent findings from the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA), which highlight the educational underperformance of 15-year-old Filipino students in mathematics, reading, and science compared to their global counterparts, RCTQ has issued a statement calling for urgent national attention and collective action to address the crisis, while also acknowledging initiatives undertaken in the past decade to enhance teacher quality and introduce evidence-based reforms.
Noting that no country has been able to achieve quick fixes in learning, RCTQ stresses the importance of allowing sufficient time for these evidence-based improvements to take effect and show impact, and ensuring that proposed solutions should seamlessly integrate with existing reforms to maximize human capital potential.
RCTQ also calls for a closer alignment of initial teacher training in the tertiary education with real-life classroom and learner needs, and urges parents to maintain high expectations and continuous encouragement for their children’s education.
